The STEKO principles:

  • High quality, modern construction using wood on the wide basis of scientifically proven research and development.
  • Simple, modular construction with completely ready-made, standardised and industrially manufactured wood modules.
  • Self-explanatory kit system of latest technology and construction allowing for sustainable and economic construction.
  • Use of natural construction materials.
  • Healthy and comfortable living climate.
  • Also works perfectly in extreme altitudes and with highly changeable climate conditions (warmth – cold – humidity).
  • Meets highest requirements regarding stability, earthquake safety, durability, comfort and design flexibility.

An overview of the STEKO formation and development history

In 1995 a group of specialists of the current building practice and the modern research joined forces with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) and the Swiss Material Testing Institute Dübendorf (EMPA) to become a development team. The declared target: an integral solution for a simple, inexpensive construction system of high quality made of wood. The new wood construction system called "Steko" is the result of this close cooperation. Handy wood modules, which can be coupled next to each other and on top of each other, are the cores of the new construction system.

Already one year later a residential complex with two and a half floors was developed and scientifically evaluated as a pilot project in Kesswil (Switzerland). The fast development with many completed buildings in Switzerland followed.

10 years after the pilot project approximately 1,000 objects have been built all over Europe; from Greenland to Italy, from the Slovakia to Spain. In addition to single-family detached houses multiple family dwellings, schools, industrial and business buildings were also established.

Steko is patented on the most important global markets and protected by patent law.
